Police: Off-Duty Police Officer Rushed To Hospital After Alleged Attack

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) –An off-duty NYPD officer is nursing some serious wounds after being punched in the head several times by a large man.

The dispute between the two men happened in Richmond Hill just after 4:40 a.m., authorities said.
1010 WINS’ Roger Stern spoke with a man who claimed to witness the attack.
According to the eyewitness, the officer and a woman had just left a bar on Liberty Ave and were walking across the street to the officer’s car, when a man followed the officer and began hitting him in the face.
The officer went down, got back up, and was hit again, the eyewitness said.  Then a second man emerged from the crowd and started kicking the officer in the face in the foot, the witness said.
The officer was rushed to Jamaica Hospital where police say he is in stable condition.
This is not ther first brawl on Liberty Ave. Neighbors told WCBS 880′s Monica Miller that they hope authorities can crack down on the violence.
No formal charges have been filed yet, police said.
