DETROIT, MI - If the home at 19946 Dresden on Detroit's east side isn't considered a part of hip hop history, it likely will be soon.
This is the place where Eminem spent some of his childhood years and is a bungalow featured on his 2000 album "The Marshall Mathers LP."
It's also featured on Slim Shady's new album, "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" - slated for a Nov. 5 release - and is shown in the video for his new song called "Survival" that was released this week.
Consider the home and surrounding neighborhood in survival mode based on the trip I took Wednesday afternoon that included some interviews with residents.
"Why give up?," said 50-year-old homeowner Steve Rivers, who lives five houses down from Eminem's old home. "I've seen the neighborhood worse."
I found that hard to believe considering the fact I counted a whopping 70 homes that appeared abandoned on Dresden, including a whopping 66 between 8 Mile and 7 Mile roads.
