"There's a fellow mowing the grass next to the Lincoln Memorial this morning. He's carrying a SC state flag. I guess he's just trying his best to help the country deal with the government shutdown." -Richard Martone

Cox was spotted cutting the grass near the Lincoln Memorial.

At least someone in Washington is willing to do the dirty work.
A South Carolina man attempted to mow the lawn outside the Lincoln Memorial Wednesday — a duty he insisted must be done even though the Park Service employees who normally cut the grass have been furloughed during the ongoing government shutdown.

"These are our memorials. Do they think that we’re just going to let them go to h**l,” mower man Chris Cox told WNEW-FM radio shortly after he was asked by police to leave. “No.”
Cox, who spent a small chunk of the afternoon toting a South Carolina flag in one hand and pushing a gasoline-powered mower in the other, said he was cutting the grass near the treasured memorial simply because he wanted it to look nice for the Million Vet March next weekend.

"If they shut down our memorials, we’re still going to take the trash out, we’re going to clean the windows, we’re going to cut the grass, we’re going to pull the weeds, we’re going to do the tree work,” he said.
Despite the noble mission, police eventually asked Cox to leave.
