STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- He preyed on Staten Island senior citizens, entering their homes through a ruse and then snatching cash and jewelry when an accomplice distracted the victims.
But Danny Ely won't be conning anyone for a while, after pleading guilty to felony charges that will put him behind bars for up to four years.
Ely, of Elizabeth, N.J., was part of a loosely connected ring of thieves, including his brother, Harvey Ely, who targeted older homeowners in the city's outer boroughs and Staten Island, said police sources.
