Accused Facebook killer Derek Medina’s 26-page statement to cops released - as autopsy shows wife was kneeling when fatally shot

Accused Facebook killer Derek Medina’s 26-page statement to cops released - as autopsy shows wife was kneeling when fatally shot

Medina, 31, allegedly told cops that he fatally shot his wife, Jennifer Alfonso, when she started to attack him inside their Miami, Florida, home on Aug. 8. But an autopsy report shows that the 27-year-old mother was likely kneeling and trying to shield her face when she was killed.

Medina, who faces charges that include second-degree murder and child neglect, is expected to go to trial in November.

The Florida man who allegedly shot and killed his wife and posted a picture of her corpse on Facebook gave cops a 26-page statement claiming he fired in self-defense, according to documents released Friday.
But an autopsy report released the same day shows the woman was likely kneeling and trying to shield her face when she was killed.
Derek Medina, 31, told Miami-Dade police after he was arrested that he shot his wife, Jennifer Alfonso, during a confrontation in their kitchen after she tried to pull a knife on him on Aug. 8, NBC Miami reported.
“I grabbed her hand and grabbed the knife in my right hand, put it back in the drawer,” he said in the rambling statement, which was released by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office. “She kept on punching me like crazy again and then I fired.”
He said he turned himself in after the fatal shooting, because he didn’t believe he was at fault.

Derek Medina (l.) told cops he fatally shot his wife, Jennifer Alfonso (r.), in self-defense during a fight in their Miami home on Aug. 8.

“Cause I’m not a killer,” he said in the long-winded statement. “And it was self-defense. I’m very — I honor my country, I honor my state, I honor my city of South Miami. I do not feel that I’m guilty and I feel like this was self-defense.”
However, a report from the county’s medical examiner shows that Alfonso, 27, was shot several times in her left forearm with many of the rounds fired from a downward trajectory, the news station reported.
Medina admitted to cops that he posted a picture of Alfonso’s dead body on Facebook to let her family know that her 10-year-old daughter — who was in an upstairs room during the murder — would need help.
“So the family would know and be notified and they could rush over there and get my stepdaughter,” he reportedly told detectives during questioning.
He said he “uploaded it on Facebook. On her page, so the family could see it...Because I have her family and friends on my Facebook too.”

Medina told cops the fight began when Alfonso got mad at him for falling asleep and not waking up for a date night together.
He said she began throwing random things — including towels, shoes and boxes — during the spat.
Medina said he grabbed his gun when Alfonso started to punch him.
“I pointed it towards her. I told her to stop,” he said.
“She was like, ‘You’re not going to kill me, you’re not going to kill me.’”

Medina said he didn’t want to fire, but warned his wife to “stop touching me and attacking me.”
“She just started throwing punches like crazy,” Medina said. “She was like really attacking me. Like I was getting out of the way and got hit in the arm and she was like going for my temple.”
He said that’s when the fight moved into the kitchen, where he shot Alfonso.
Medina admitted to firing six to eight times before he stashed the gun and told Alfonso’s 10-year-old daughter — who was in the home during the murder — to stay in an upstairs room.
He then went back downstairs and took the picture he posted on the social media site.
