‘Creed,’ a ‘Rocky’ spinoff in development from MGM, will focus on the grandson of Carl Weathers’ Apollo Creed (l., in the original ‘Rocky’.) The Italian Stallion himself, Sylvester Stallone, will reprise his role, this time as a trainer.
“Rocky” fans are flying high now that word has leaked that a spinoff movie is in the works.
MGM has greenlit “Creed,” focusing on the grandson of Rocky nemesis turned friend Apollo Creed, who was played by Carl Weathers in the first four “Rocky” films, Deadline.com reported.
Director Ryan Coogler, fresh off the acclaimed drama “Fruitvale Station,” is set to direct. The studio is in early talks to also bring aboard his “Fruitvale Station” star, Michael B. Jordan, for the title role in “Creed,” according to the report.
Rocky himself, Sylvester Stallone, will return, though now as a trainer.
