Marijuana, guns land Staten Island man in trouble again, NYPD says
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- It's "krazy" out there, and he needed protection. That's what a 20-year-old told police when they raided his Mariners Harbor apartment and found two guns and a pound of marijuana, according to a law enforcement source.
Montrel Tillman, 20, told police he was driving one day when he spied a pink bag behind the Arlington Terrace Apartments with two guns, a bulletproof vest and several different kinds of ammunition inside, the source said.
So he kept the bag, he said in a written statement, because "where I live is a krazy neighhood," the source said.
Tillman's statement came after police got two separate search warrants for his 10th-floor apartment at 65 Holland Ave., court papers allege, and they came knocking at 6:40 a.m. Tuesday.
They found a loaded .45 caliber Hi Point semi-automatic pistol in a hallway closet, along with 55 loose rounds of pistol and revolver ammunition; a loaded .38 caliber Interarms revolver in a kitchen drawer, and just over a pound of marijuana in a bag on a living room table, court papers allege.
Tillman, who was convicted on a marijuana possession charge in September 2011, is charged with second-, third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, possession of ammunition, second-degree criminal possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of marijuana, according to information from District Attorney Daniel Donovan's office.
