Do you remember the 2001 Chandra Levy case? She was a 24 year old intern for the U.S. Bureau of Prisons in 2001 who was found dead in Washington’s Rock Creek Park, a year after she had gone missing. At the time, Levy was reportedly having an affair with Gary Condit, a former Democrat congressman from California. He denied any involvement to Levy’s disappearance and was no longer a suspect.
Ingmar Guandigue, 30, became the new suspect in Levy’s murder. Guandigue is an illegal immigrant from El Salvador. Guandigue was serving a sentence for attacking two other women in the same area where Levy’s body was found, Rock Creek Park.
Guandigue was convicted of the Levy murder after he made a jailhouse confession. He is serving 60 years for the murder.
Guandigue says that the confession was a lie! New documents from the decade-old Chandra Levy murder case show the prosecution’s case was “predicated on a lie,” claim defense attorneys who also attacked prosecutors for sitting on doubts about the credibility of one witness in the case.
Mr. Guandique and the public have a right to know precisely what happened at Mr. Guandique’s trial and why the government allowed its prosecution to be predicated on a lie,” Guandique’s attorneys argue in a motion unsealed Tuesday.
The last hearing in the case was Thursday and its transcript was not released. The judge has scheduled another hearing for April 11.
