I remember as a child seeing pics of the real Fat Albert Roberson in a Jet magazine story. I remember how much he looked like the cartoon character and the article saying hat he had died a decade earlier in the 1960's in North Phladelphia of a Heroin overdose. I even as a child found it sad and ironic that a young Man who did so much good for his friends and protecting them from such evils, fell victim to them himself.......But don't we all kow a "Fat Albert"?
The cartoon lasted 13 seasons and helped a lot of "At risk" inner city kids such as myself get through very difficult times and a rough recession era that was the 1970's and 80's. I think William H. Cosby has never been fully recognized or even "Thanked" fo such a selfless, courageous, and needed show to his people and young people in general. I watched the 2004 movie on the ION channel yesterday and was moved by the final scene where we finally saw the real life inspirations for the "Junkyard gang".
Thank you Bill Cosby for making us all feel part of the "Gang. :)
